'Game of Thrones' recap: A pregnancy, a Baratheon, and a Jon Snow secret
Spoiler alert! Stop reading if you don’t want to know what happened in Game of Thrones. Seriously, you will be bummed out when you read about who is pregnant.
Episode 5 of Game of Thrones got off to a fiery start after last week’s epic battle. When Lord Randyll Tarly and Dickon Tarly refused to bend the knee for Daenerys, she sentenced them to death by dragon breath. While Daenerys was scaring the crap out of the Lannister army, Jaime and Bronn popped up safely onshore downriver.
Daenerys then flew home, where she found out that Jon Snow is apparently a dragon whisperer. When Daenerys landed with Drogon back at Dragonstone, she and Drogon came right up to Jon. The dragon came within inches of Jon’s face as he reached out and rubbed Drogon’s face. Daenerys also found her old friend, Jorah, who returned to her cured of Greyscale. Jorah said, “I return to your service, my queen, if you’ll have me.” Daenerys, obviously, accepted, saying, “It would be my honor.”
Lannister reunion
Speaking of reunions, Tyrion sneaked back into King’s Landing to get Jaime to talk Cersei into meeting with Daenerys. Although,Jaime was still a tad upset about Tyrion’s skewering their dad on the crapper. But Jaime still took his brother’s message to his sister-slash-lover, who was, surprisingly, cool with it because she had a surprise for her lover-slash-brother — she’s pregnant!
Baratheon’s back!
Speaking of illegitimate children, Gendry’s back! And the Baratheon bastard is swinging a war hammer just like his old man. Ser Davos took Gendry to meet Jon Snow, finally reuniting the Starks and Baratheons after all these years.
Jon Snow is legitimate?
Speaking of Jon’s father — well, his real father — Gilly unknowingly revealed a bombshell while reading with Sam. Looking at notes from an old maester, she read, “He issued an annulment for a Prince Rhaegar and remarried him to someone else at the same time in a secret ceremony in Dorne.” Sam brushed past Gilly’s interesting info, which has so many possible implications.
But that will all have to wait, as Jon headed to Eastwatch, where he met up with the Hound and the Brotherhood, and, of course, Tormond, who was concerned with only one person: Brienne. Unfortunately, Tormund’s love life would have to wait because the motley crew headed north of the wall to capture a white walker. And, judging by the preview, next week is going to be pretty intense.
Game of Thrones airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on HBO.
