Golden Globe Nominations: ‘La La Land’, ‘Moonlight’ Lead Films; ‘People Vs. OJ’ Tops TV
The 74th annual Golden Globe Awards nominations ceremony were announced morning at the Beverly Hilton, kicking the awards season into an even higher gear. The marquee Best Motion Picture-Drama category included Mel Gibson’s Hacksaw Ridge but not Denzel Washington’s Fences or Martin Scorsese’s Silence among the film-side highlights.
Also notable: Deadpool cracked the superhero movie awards glass ceiling of sorts with a nom for Best Motion Picture-Musical or Comedy, as well as Best Actor-Comedy or Musical nom for Ryan Reynolds.
On the TV side the Globes’ tradition of being friendly to newcomers continued with Westworld, This Is Us, Stranger Things and The Crown scoring noms in the Best Television Series-drama race alongside Game Of Thrones. The latter’s network, HBO, led all networks with 14 nominations.
Stay tuned for more analysis later this morning.
Organizer the Hollywood Foreign Press Association will now mail out final ballots to member on December 19 for a voting period that ends January 4. The Golden Globes ceremony is set for Sunday, January 8 at 5 PM PT/8 PM ET live on NBC hosted by Jimmy Fallon.
