How Anderson Cooper Avoids Trump on Twitter
Over the weekend, President Trump fired off a few tweets, casually accusing former President Barack Obama of wiretapping Trump Tower during the campaign. On The Late Show, Anderson Cooper discussed the rude awakening he had on Sunday. Cooper marveled at how Trump added insult to injury by tweeting about Arnold Schwarzenegger and Celebrity Apprentice after throwing out perhaps the biggest accusation ever made about a president.
It turns out that Cooper has a bit of a strategy when it comes to the president’s tweets, and it involves basically not listening to them at all. By muting the president’s tweets, he maintains the appearance that he’s following the rants, but he don’t actually see the tweets.
Cooper said Trump’s tweets reveal the inner workings of his mind, comparing them to an emotional seismograph.
If Trump’s tweets are how he releases his emotions, Cooper thought, that he might do well to find a healthier outlet. When Colbert noted that Trump doesn’t drink, smoke, or do drugs, Cooper said, “Yeah, well, there are things you can do.”
The Late Show With Stephen Colbert airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. on CBS.
