Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars, and Katy Perry’s Hair Highlight iHeartRadio Awards
The iHeartRadio Music Awards had everything from great musical performances to moving acceptance speeches to Katy Perry’s new hairdo!
Justin Timberlake won Song of the Year for his hit “Can’t Stop the Feeling.” The former NSync star said he wrote the song about inclusion, and during his acceptance speech, he had a message for the young people watching. Justin said, “If you are black or you are brown or you are gay or you are lesbian or you are trans and… or maybe you’re just a sissy singing boy from Tennessee,” obviously referencing himself, “anyone that is treating you unkindly, it’s only because they are afraid or they have been taught to be afraid of how important you are.”
While Justin won the first award of the night, the show opened with Katy singing in a hamster wheel, but it was her haircut that took center stage. Katy debuted the pixie cut on Instagram a few days ago, and in her first public appearance since her breakup with Orlando Bloom, Katy revealed her inspiration for the new ’do. While speaking to the host of the show, Ryan Seacrest, Katy said, “I saw Scarlett Johansson and she had the same cut, and I was like, ‘Dang, that’s one of the most beautiful women in the world. I could do that too and look maybe half as good,’ so I went there.”
But the iHeartRadio Music Awards is all about the music, and there were plenty of good performances by stars including Ed Sheeran, Shawn Mendes, Country Artist of the Year winner Thomas Rhett, and Best New Artist winner the Chainsmokers, who were joined onstage by Coldplay’s Chris Martin. But Bruno Mars was the big winner of the night, as he took home the Innovator Award and ended the night with a performance that had everybody dancing.
