Lin-Manuel Miranda and James Corden get ‘naked’ in Crosswalk the Musical: 'Hair'
Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda joined James Corden on The Late Late Show for another rousing rendition of Crosswalk the Musical. This time around they did a musical that debuted on Broadway in 1968, that hippie classic Hair.
Miranda kicked things off singing the solo at the beginning of the 5th Dimension’s signature hit, “The Age of Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In,” before joining Corden and the rest of the cast on Beverly Boulevard. That is, of course, until the light turned green and they were all forced to rush off the street to the sound of angry car horns.
Undeterred, they were all back out there singing and dancing until once again the light turned green. This time though, Corden took exception to one driver, at whom he pointed and yelled.
Anybody familiar with Hair knows that the cast gets naked on stage. In this case, the stage is a busy street and nudity is frowned upon.
“In the original production of Hair the entire cast got naked. But both CBS and the state of California told us we can’t be nude in the crosswalk,” Miranda said. “Then again, people told me Alexander Hamilton wasn’t a Puerto Rican rapper with beautiful brown eyes.”
So what happened their next time out? You guessed it. Miranda and Corden removed their robes and danced around the street “naked,” while singing at the top of their lungs, “Let the sunshine in.”
