‘Powerless’ Revamps Into Almost Entirely New, Perhaps Better, Show
Much like a phone booth costume change, NBC’s Powerless has gone through a revamp so drastic, the show is almost unrecognizable. Well, it is if you’re one of the Metropolis dwellers who can’t tell Superman from Clark Kent. All he did was take off his glasses, people!
Powerless, the first sitcom set in the DC Universe, has had quite a journey to the small screen: first greenlighted in August 2015, ordered to series in May 2016, a two-minute trailer then leaked later that month, then, the showrunner Ben Queen left the series in August over creative differences, and the premiere was delayed until February. Somewhere between August and now, an entirely new show was made in which they now work for Wayne Security, not an insurance company.
When we interviewed star Vanessa Hudgens and the cast back in July at San Diego Comic-Con, they gave us this Elevator Pitch for the series…
And they definitely said it was insurance company, not Wayne Security. I suppose there was only so much they could do with a half-hour version of those Farmers Insurance commercials with Spider-Man’s angry boss.
But this new version looks like it could still be fun, plus the cast remained in tact, including fan favorite funny-men Alan Tudyk, Danny Pudi, and Ron Funches. So, there’s still hope in Gotham, or Metropolis, or whichever town they end up in. As long as they stay out of Midway City and leave it to the Suicide Squad.
