Ryan Reynolds Interrupts ‘The Late Show’ to Call Stephen Colbert a Liar
Stephen Colbert was in the middle of his opening monologue Tuesday night on The Late Show when Ryan Reynolds abruptly interrupted him to call him a liar. In the monologue, Colbert was talking about Tuesday, March 21, being Matthew Broderick’s birthday, and that prompted Reynolds to come out and inform everyone that Colbert was delivering fake news. Reynolds said, “I’ve been sitting back there listening to you deceive these people. Today is not Tuesday.”
Reynolds was revealing that it was a pre-recorded episode that they shot last Thursday to air on Tuesday. But Colbert fought Reynolds by trying to prove it was actually Tuesday by telling a timely joke. Colbert said, “So March Madness is upon us, and did you hear this? There’s only 16 teams left in the tournament.” Reynolds was quick to block Colbert’s “sweet” attempt to fool everyone by pointing out that there’s always 16 teams left at this point.
The two went back and forth, arguing about what day it was, until Colbert pulled out the “Taco Tuesday tactic.” Colbert offered him a taco, saying, “You can’t have tacos on a Thursday,” and Reynolds replied, “No, that’s against the law.” “What day is it?” Colbert asked, waving the taco in front of Reynolds’s face. Reynolds finally caved, took a bite of the taco, and with his mouth full, said, “It’s Tuesday!”
The Late Show With Stephen Colbert airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. on CBS.
