Samantha Bee Shreds Ivanka Trump’s New Book on ‘Full Frontal’
On Full Frontal With Samantha Bee, the host took aim at Ivanka Trump’s new book, Women Who Work: Rewriting the Rules for Success. Bee had many, many problems with it, and had no problem ripping it to shreds, figuratively. Not literally.
One thing Bee took issue with was Trump’s use of the word “architect” as a verb, something Trump has also done in interviews. This is, of course, incorrect, yet it’s used this way in the book at least eight times. While on the subject of incorrect use of the English language, Bee pointed out that Trump wrote in the book that someone once told her that “life” is a verb.
According to Bee and others, Women Who Work is also heavily dependent on quotes from such famous figures as Nelson Mandela, Sun Tzu, and Walt Disney. Also, according to Bee, Trump cites The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People more than 30 times. Some of the quotes she used in the book have drawn criticism. She used one from Toni Morrison about slavery to start a chapter called “Working Smarter,” causing Trump to be accused of equating a busy schedule to slavery.
Trump has also caught some flak for bungled quotes. According to Bee, Trump misquoted poet and civil rights activist Maya Angelou; and, according to Politifact, she attributes a quote to the U.S.’s sixth president, John Quincy Adams, that experts say there is no record of him saying.
Bee was also quick to point out the extreme tone-deafness of the stories from her life that Trump shares, thinking that the average woman would be able to relate. Suffice it to say, it’s unlikely Bee will be recommending this book to anyone anytime soon.
