‘Saturday Night Live’ #TBT: Get Short for the 4th of July
The Fourth of July is a day for fireworks, barbecues, running through sprinklers, and rocking… really short shorts?
In this Saturday Night Live throwback clip from October 2001, Will Ferrell’s office worker shows a little patriotism in a barely-there shirt and extremely skimpy stars-and-stripes shorts.
When Dale enters a meeting in this outfit, his co-workers can barely keep it together. “For the love of God,” host Sean William Scott says disgustedly, “Why are your shorts… so short?”
“Why are long pants long?” Ferrell responds. “Why are bushes bushy?”
The meeting gets even more out of control when Dale sits back in his chair and props a leg to deliver a report. (Watch Rachel Dratch and Seth Meyers turn their heads when they start to break.)
“Just remember this,” Dale declares when they can’t stand it anymore. “The U.S. of A is the greatest country on Earth. And for that I will make no apologies.”
‘Merica — the land of the free and the home of the very short shorts!
SNL returns for its 43rd season this fall.
