‘Snatch’ Star Rupert Grint Confesses to Being a Childhood Pokémon Counterfeiter
It might sound strange to picture the virtuous Ron Weasley as a small-time crook. But Rupert Grint has apparently been training for a series like Snatch since his school days. In the new Crackle show, based on Guy Ritchie’s 2000 heist movie of the same name, the Harry Potter star plays Charlie Cavendish Scott, a member of England’s upper crust who is pursuing a career in the criminal class. (Read Ken Tucker’s Snatch review here.) And Grint remembers a time when he defied the law … of the playground, anyway. “I used to sell counterfeit Pokémon cards,” the 28-year-old actor tells Yahoo TV. “I used to print them out and sell them on the playground. They used to be quite hot!”
It goes without saying that Charlie and his partners in crime — including mobster son Albert Hill (Luke Pasqualino) and boxer Billy Ayers (Lucien Laviscount) — have their sights set on a bigger prize than Pokémon. In the first episode, the trio rob a truck that contains a stack of gold bullion, setting off a chain of events that plays out in wild ways over the course of Snatch‘s 10-episode first season, which is available to binge-watch on Crackle. “It throws us straight into this very dangerous criminal world that we’re just not prepared for,” Grint teases. “We’re just small-time hustlers and suddenly we’ve got everyone after us.” You might say they’ve gotta catch ’em all.
‘Snatch’ is currently streaming on Crackle.
