Stephen Colbert on Trump’s Leak to Russia: ‘I Completely Agree With Donald Trump’
In his monologue on Tuesday night, Stephen Colbert addressed President Trump‘s leaking of classified information to Russian diplomats and proclaimed, “I gotta say, and I don’t care if this is taken out of context, I completely agree with Donald Trump.”
The Late Show host has been highly critical of Trump. Colbert went on to explain the gravity of Trump’s intelligence leak to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Ambassador Sergey Kislyak. The Late Show taped the monologue before the New York Times reported that Trump allegedly asked recently fired FBI Director James Comey to stop his investigation of former national security adviser Michael Flynn’s ties to Russia.
Colbert highlighted outrage from both sides of the aisle, including a comment from Republican Sen. Bob Corker. Colbert added, “Another top Republican weighed in, and he didn’t mince words.”
He then cut to a clip of Trump giving a speech, saying, “We can’t have someone in the Oval Office who doesn’t understand the meaning of the word confidential or classified.”
Colbert remarked, “I gotta say, and I don’t care if this is taken out of context, I completely agree with Donald Trump.”
