The O.J. Simpson Trial: Where Are They Now?

THEN: The Heisman Trophy winner and NFL Hall of Fame member, who had followed his football career with successful stints in acting, broadcasting, and as a Hertz rental car spokesman, was found not guilty of the murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman. Dubbed the “Trial of the Century,” the controversial 1995 case was televised for 134 days, focusing on issues of race, police misconduct, domestic abuse, and fame. Simpson, who had pled no contest to spousal abuse of Nicole in 1989, was later found financially liable for the murders in a 1997 civil trial, and ordered to pay his children and the victims’ families more than $46 million.

NOW: In 2007, Simpson was arrested in Las Vegas after being accused of breaking into the hotel room of a sports memorabilia dealer and stealing various memorabilia items at gunpoint. Simpson claimed the items — from his own sports career — had been stolen from him. On October 3, 2008, 13 years to the day after he was acquitted of the murders of his ex-wife and Goldman, Simpson, now 68, was found guilty of the theft and sentenced to 33 years in prison. He is currently incarcerated at the Lovelock Correctional Center in Lovelock, Nevada, and will be eligible for parole in 2017. Simpson is portrayed by Oscar winner Cuba Gooding, Jr. in American Crime Story.
