‘The Real O’Neals’ Season 2 Premiere Sneak Peek: Rainbows and Celebrity Cameos
The Real O’Neals is kicking off its second season with a star-studded bang, thanks to a rainbow Bat Phone and four superstar celebrity cameos. In this sneak peek from the Season 2 premiere, “The Real Thang,” Kenny (Noah Galvin) is watching a Gay Pride parade on TV with his family, but his mom (Martha Plimpton) doesn’t like all the bare chests and booty shorts, so she asks him to tell “them” to tone down the gay.
In a rainbow-infused fantasy sequence, Kenny calls Lance Bass to help him “rein in the unicorn,” which sets off a chain of calls to Jane Lynch, Tyler Oakley, and the dial-down master, RuPaul. Turns out they’ve all got Eileen’s number.
“The premiere episode is super-exciting because we are premiering on National Coming Out Day,” Real O’Neals executive producer Stacy Traub tells Yahoo TV. “We are dealing with a story where, now that Kenny’s out, he wants to start an LGBT club at school and the only problem is the only person who joins is one lesbian, [Allison], who’s kind of dull. It’s about the friendship between them and them trying to get more people to join, but it really turns into a story of Kenny urging Allison to come out to her parents and then realizing that not everyone has the same situation that he has and it’s not safe for everyone to come out.”
“As hard as Kenny had it last year, and Eileen is a tough mom, there was never a moment where he thought he might get kicked out of his house,” Traub says. “So it’s kind of Kenny understanding that everyone’s situation is different, and that coming out means different things to different people and you have to do it when the time is right for you.”
Season 2 of The Real O’Neals premieres Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 9:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
