‘So You Think You Can Dance’ Sneak Peek: Judges Wowed by ‘Breaking Fusion’ Dancer
So Honolulu native Mark Villaver thinks he can dance? Only because he learned from his deaf mom.
In this sneak peek clip from Monday night’s Season 14 premiere of So You Think You Can Dance, 26-year-old Mark stuns judges Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy, and newbie Vanessa Hudgens with a lyrical, graceful, and fluid number set to James Bay’s “Let It Go.”
He dubs his style “Breaking Fusion,” and he learned it from teacher and mother, Emilia Villaver Daquioag. They often dance together, and Mark — who’s performed with Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift — clearly gets his infectious energy and charm from his mom. Deaf dancers often perform barefoot to feel the rhythm on the floor, and rely on visual cues rather than the music or audio.
Season 14 is a return to form for SYTYCD after last year’s juniors edition. The top 10 finalists will be paired once again with all-stars from the past, including Allison Holker, Fikshun, and Comfort Fedoke.
So You Think You Can Dance premieres Monday, June 12 at 8 p.m. on Fox.
