Top 5 Late-Night TV Political Punchlines: From Wiretapping to Healthcare
Politics continue to dominate late-night talk shows. From Stephen Colbert to Conan O’Brien, every late-night host’s monologues are full of political jokes. Since it’s impossible to catch every joke from every show, we put together the five best political punchlines of the week.
Donald Trump issued a new, less restrictive travel ban, and Conan detailed who would be affected. He said, “This one bans some Muslims and all women who haven’t been able to lose the baby weight.”
On Full Frontal With Samantha Bee, Sam discussed Trump’s claims that Obama was wiretapping his phones during the election. Sam pointed to comments made by Mark Levin, saying that Obama was behind a “silent coup” against Trump. She sarcastically agreed, saying, “Just one of those classic coups where a president uses the might of the government to spy on an opponent, and then doesn’t release any of the information he found, lets the other guy win, and then isn’t president anymore. Classic coup. Exactly what that word means.”
On The Daily Show, Trevor Noah explained the difference between immigrants and slaves after Ben Carson made some controversial comments during a speech. Trevor said, “They didn’t come to America; they were brought here by force. Eddie Murphy came to America, Kunta Kinte was brought. Big difference, people!”
