Vote for 2016's Best New TV Couple
It’s time for the Yahooies, Yahoo TV’s second annual reader-voted awards honoring the best — and sometimes worst — of 2016. Each day from Dec. 5 to Dec. 16, we will announce the nominees for one category, with an accompanying poll. The winners will be crowned Monday, Dec. 19.
The nominees for 2016’s Best New Couple are…
Jimmy and Kim (Better Call Saul)
She inspires him to pursue his law career (even if he always does so on his often hinky terms), and he inspires her to take time out from her Post-It Notes and client pursuits to have some fun (even if that fun often includes grifting). Jimmy and Kim work because opposites attract and complement each other in this instance, making for one fun, funny, classic Hollywood movie kinda couple. —Kimberly Potts
White Josh and Darryl (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend)
We don’t know how we got by without West Covina’s coolest couple, super-buff fitness guru Josh Wilson a.k.a. “White Josh” and super-kooky lawyer Darryl Whitefeather. Their sweet, tender romance is the one all of us should strive to emulate, especially when the alternative is Rebecca Bunch’s crazy (and crazily entertaining) love life. Consider this our invitation to our next group hang, fellas. —Ethan Alter
Javier and Letty (Good Behavior)
Spoiler alert: These two are steamy enough to make our forthcoming Best Sex Scene category (the one where they role-played being a married couple celebrating their anniversary, in episode 2), but the real reason they’ve become such a quick favorite is because we believe hitman Javier truly cares for ex-con Letty. They’re a reminder that someone can know the darkest part of you and accept it, and that it’s the little things (like Javier offering Letty his glasses) that matter. —Mandi Bierly
Jonathan and Nancy (Stranger Things)
Okay, so maybe these two ‘80s teens never achieved official couple-dom. Still, all the longing glances amateur shutterbug Jonathan shot in Nancy’s direction — and her returned affection for him — implies there’ll still be plenty of chemistry percolating when the smash summer series returns for Season 2. Basically, Steve shouldn’t get too comfortable assuming that Nancy is still “his” girl. —EA
Beth and Randall (This Is Us)
Randall and Beth are the embodiment of that saying “there’s no ‘I’ in team.” They help each other in the kitchen, lend an ear for presentation practice, and consistently walk each other off ledges with humor, honesty, and heart (like when Beth had a pregnancy scare, which also proved they’re still very much attracted to each other). They don’t keep secrets, and while they present a united front outwardly, their bond is strong enough to call each other out on their bulls–t. They even perfected a tag-team system to watch soccer games when both kids are playing, giving us new #relationshipgoals. —Carrie Bell
Michonne and Rick (The Walking Dead)
Whuuuut? Who saw that one coming? But “Richonne” made so much sense once it did, as these two fierce post-apocalyptic leaders had already formed their own little family unit with teen Carl and baby Judith. Plus, from that first mack on the couch to that au naturel morning after in Rick’s bed, Richonne made one instantly sexy coupling. —KP
